Football! The eighties, our unforgettable Sundays!

Albania has had a dignified football national championships, but, from which we would single out the championships from the 80-ties generation, the football players, teams….

Championships of those years that many of the decade (1980-1990)  I have followed with passion, interest and with emotions up to the indescribable ones.

The championships of that decade remain the highest quality, perhaps because we are the generation that grew up in those years with a passion for the sport of football in general, where Albanian football had also a special place.

The passion was born in me as a young child, as every child of the time falls in love with this sport and its champions.

For us of the 80s, it was the time of Maradona, Zico, Rrumenigge, Rossi, up to Guli, Van Basten, etc., in the world arena, and the Albanian one of Kaci, Musta, Agim Murat, Hado, Kercicet and Korce, Andrea Markos of Targaj, Kola and Minga, A. Hafizi, Vukatana and F. Rragami, P. Kovaci, S. Braho, A. Boni, D. Bajazit, Aleksander Koci of Naftetari, Kujtim Majaci of Apollonia, an endless list of champions that passed during that unforgettable decade. That’s why I grew up following them from the stands of the stadiums, through the Albanian Television TVSH, the matches of the day with the commentators Y. Kurti, V. Grillo; S. Kellici; or even later F. Fico.

We never forgot the “Rrubrika Sportiva” Show of Mondays directed by Vladimir Grillo; with full emotions listening the Radio in the Sundays show “From one match to another” hosted by Ahmet Shqarri, and the different commentators from the other cities where we can remember some of them, no doubt starting with two or three of unforgettable: Ismet Bellova. Veli Rada, Ymer Kurti and so we can continue with the now deceased from Shkodra Ymer Striniqi, in Elbasan with Sefedin Allkja, in Gjirokaster Pirro Qiqi, etc. voices that described and conveyed to us the emotions of the matches of our unforgettable Sundays.

However, the passion and interest was not limited to that, but many of us collected the “Sporti Popullor” newspaper, the only news agency of that time.

The generation of the 80s of teams and players who participate in the national championships is for many opinions the most excellent period of Albanian football. Among other things, we have positive and satisfying results in the international arena, both with the national team and at the club level.

It is enough to remember some matches: Partizani-Austria Vienna 1-0; Partizani – Malmoe 0-0 (1980) Vllaznia – Austria Vienna 2-0 (1978); Albania (U21) twice champion of the Balkans in 1978 beating Romania 7-1, and 1981 2-1 Romania in Kavalla;

Dinamo – Carl Zeiss Jena 1-0 (1981); 17 Nentori – Larisa 3-0 (1982); 17 Nentori – Linfield 1-0 (1982); Dynamo – Aberdeen 0-0 (1982); Albania – Ireland v. 0-0 (1982); Albania – West Germany 1-2 (1983); 17 Nentori – Hammarby 2-1 (1983); Under 21  Albania – Austria 3-0 (1983); Our Under 21 Team, in the 8th of Europe, after knocking out of the European the Germans…. West Germany – Albania 1-1 (1983);

West Germany – Albania 2-1 (Saarbrucken, 1983); Poland – Albania 2-2 (1984); Albania- Belgium 2-0 (1984); Dinamo – Sporting Lisbon 0-0 (1985).

To continue with 17 Nentori – Dinamo Bucharest 1-0 (1986); Malmo – 17 Nentori 0-0 (1986); Flamurtari – Fc Barcelona 1-1 (1986); Flamurtari – Partizan Belgrade 2-0 (1987); Flamurtari – BISMUTH AUE 2-0 (1987); Flamurtari – Barcelona 1-0 (1987); 17 Nentori – Sliema 5-0 (1989); Dinamo – Cerno Morets 4-0 (1989); Dinamo Tirana – Dinamo Bucharest 1-0 (1989); Dinamo Tirana – Olympique Marseilles 0-0 (1990); Gotenborg – Flamurtari 0-0 (1991)…..

So these results came becouse we had a really dignified national championships. , with an attacking accent and fighting spirit of the race, with desire and passion from the players who gave their maximum with seriousness for the jerseys they represented in the competitions they played, even though it was probably difficult from the financial side and the lack of sports material;

The decade begins with Dinamo, the 1979-1980 champion. The champions consisted of players such as: Shyqyri Ballgjini, Ilir Luarasi, Kujtim Cocoli, Andrea Marko, Robert Kamberi, Muhedin Targaj, Rifat Ibershimi, Abedin Jahjai, Aleko Bregu, Gj. Bejo, Halit Gega, Bashkim Delia, Agron Dautaj, Ilir Pernaska, Artur Cobani, Durim Kuqi, Vasillaq Zeri, Mehdi Bushati, Artur Nika, Naum Kove, Struga, Maksim Ndroqi, Pjerin Noga, led by coach: Stavri Lubonja.

A season later, 1980-1981, the title was won by Partizan of Safet Berisha’s generation, Perlat Musta, Kastriot Hysi, Arjan Ahmetaj, Sulejman Starova, Bujar Hado, Ilir Lame, Feim Breca, Haxhi Ballgjini, Musa Fagu, Genc Tomori, Kristaq Eksarko, Agim Murati, Hasan Lika, Alqi Gjini, Valter Mece, Gezim Mance, Ferid Rragami, Kristaq Ciko. Trainer: Bejkush Birce.

1981 – 1982 is 17 Nentori, returning to the title after 12 years (since the 1960-1970 season) which was dominated especially by the duel Vllaznia – Dinamo and Partizan.

In the composition of the “nentorasve” were: Shkelqim Muca, Bujar Muca, Gjergj Dinella, Besnik Armadhi, Ilir Metani, Arben Vila, Luan Sengla, Bujar Vladi, Arjan Bimo, Bedri Omuri, Adnan Demneri, Antonin Naci, Millan Baci, Agustin Kola, Leonard Liti , Sulejman Mema. Coach : Enver Shehu.

1982-1983 Vllaznia is the champion of this season with the names: Ferid Rragami, Faslli Fakja, Bepin Pali, Fatbardh Jera, Hysen Dedja, Azis Gruda, Luan Vukatana, Hysen Zmijani, Viktor Briza, Fatmir Pacrami, Genc Boshnjaku, Ferid Borshi, Isa Sukaj , Astrit Hafizi, Gjergj Kushe, Ardian Bushati, Seit Canga. Coach: Ramazan Rragami. A renewed Vllazni since 1978, when it defeated Austria and Vienna in Shkoder, 4 years ago and when it was champion with the generation of Zhege, Biz, Hafiz and Millan Vaso.

1983-1984 The Albanian championship will recognize a new champion: Labinoti of Elbasan led by coach Frederik Jorgaqi, who broke the hegemony of the 4 teams that had dominated until then, namely Partizan, Dinamo, Vllaznia and 17 Nentori. The people of Elbasan had deservedly won and of course everyone congratulated them for this victory. It seems that 1984 was the year of new winners in football. In Italy, the “Scudetto” surprise was called Verona, led by O. Banjoli of Brigel, Elkjer, Galderiz, Fana and team who had a goalkeeper like Claudio Garella in the goal, who used his legs enough to stop the balls from hitting the net! !!

Meanwhile, the trophy for the European Championship was won for the first time by M. Platini’s France, GireSse and Tigana…

Elbasan champions were: Zamir Arapi, Luan Deliu, Shkelqim Asllani, Bujar Gogunja, Edmond Mustafaraj, captain Ferdinand Lleshi, Roland Agalliu , Vladimir Tafani, Dashamir Luniku, Ardian Popa, Kostandin Rama, Albert Kaloti, Bashkim Staceni, Zyber Bega, Jovan Shegani, Kastriot Vrapi, Muharrem Dosti, Sokol Branica, Sokol Gjuraj, Stavri Mitrollari.

1984-1985.  17 Nentori, became the champion of Albania. Perhaps this season’s team was even the strongest of this decade. One thing is certain that this team thanks to the collective strength and the trio Muca – Minga – Kola were the best Albanian team of the 80s.  They scored a lot but also suffered, they won against anyone but they could also be restrained in unthinkable matches, which they underestimated by playing carelessly.

But of course it was not “invincible”! The team consisted of: Mirel Josa, Arben Minga, Millan Baci, Sulejman Mema, Astrit Ramadani, Anesti Stoja, Halim Mersini, Agustin Kola, Petrit Rroga, Skender Hodja, Artur Lekbello, Bedri Omuri, Shkelqim Muca, Arjan Bimo, Leonard Liti, Artan The wristband. Trainer: Enver Shehu.

1985-1986. Dinamo’s return to the championship title after 6 years and after a championship that will be remembered for its attacking emphasis and dramatic ending. In this season, deep tennis results were achieved, but also more goals and besides November 17, which was confirmed, other teams also scored such as Vllaznia, Dinamo, Luftetari, Lokomotiva and even Tomorri. Maybe this season was not of the highest quality, but undoubtedly more spectacular. Dynamo led by Fatmir Frasheri activated these players: Muhedin Targaj, Genc Ibro, Eduart Abazi, Pjerin Noga, Luan Zenuni, Agim Canaj, Naum Kove, Arben Ndreu, Ilir Bozhiqi, Ilir Luarasi, Arjan Stafa, Ardian Jance, Arben Vila, A Goxhaj, Arben Duka, Vangjush Thimio, Durim Kuqi, Sulejman Demollari.

1986-1987. 6 years of waiting is not a little for a team like Partizan that was used to winning the championship title almost once in 2-3 years. After a past season, where the team had the weakest form in its history (especially the first phase), Partizan led by coach Neptun Bajko wins the title of champion with a generation of players that combined the experience of “veterans” with the strength of  the new players who were already in the ranks of the team last season: Perlat Musta, Arjan Hametaj, Adnan Ocelli, Besnik Bilali, Skender Gega, Astrit Ramadani, Niko Frasheri, Ledio Pano, Ylli Shehu, Ilir Lame, Genc Tomori, Roland Agalliu , Lefter Millo, Edmond Alite, Alfons Muca, Eduart Kacaci, Fatmir Hasanpapa, Shkelqim Fana, Eqerem Memushi, Lorenc Leskaj, Sokol Kushta, S. Balla, Izmir Ndreu.

The following three seasons, won twice by 17 Nentori who has already consolidated the team, almost the same names with the exception of Daja , Alimehmet, Kepit, Stoje, Rize…..and Dinamo, just as it opened the decade, ended it with the championship title.

Even in Dinamo’s ranks, names such as goalkeeper Strakosha, Bozhiqi, Vata, Xhafa, Briza or Ferko of Flamurtari were added, the team which will become the first champion of a new decade, in the 90-ties. but that we will stop in another case.

So, who were the other players and teams that made outstanding the National Championship of the 10-year-old in the 80s?

Who were these protagonists in this unforgettable decade?
