It was the time when Germany was divided into two different states and the Soviets, following their hegemony which had started since Stalin, made decisions for one of those states.

At the same time, Albania was under a dictatorship and a decade ago, we were separated from the fraternity with the Soviets.

Not Stalin’s but Khrushchev’s.

Stalin had already lost his luster even in the great country of the Soviets, but not in Albania ! His statue was found in every main square in the cities of small Albania away from the Soviets and in life, we Albanians were more Stalinists than Stalin himself!

In the photo, the best goalkeeper in the world, the German (from the western country) Josef Dieter “Sep” Maier has just taken a little relaxing walk on the boulevard with the significant name “Martyrs of the Nation” in Tirana in 1971. leaving behind the leader of the Soviet Union Josif Visarionovic Stalin and heading to the “Dajti” hotel, a “capolavoro” (masterpiece) of Italian fascism!

Only 50 years have passed, but then Tirana and Berlin, torn apart, were part of a perverted Europe so much so that, it often seems to us that Albanians and Germans, we lived on different planets and not within the same continent!

It was a whole different world!
